Vesta also develops and produces custom boards. These can be as simple as a different connector configuration for one of our stock boards, an application-specific peripheral board for one of our mezzanine SBCs to plug into, or a fully-custom product with processor and peripherals integrated onto a single board.
Our peripheral boards are designed to use standardized interfaces and connectors. In general, the idea is to use a stock SBC and stock peripheral boards in whatever combination is necessary for producing a proof-of-concept or prototype system. Once you have a working system, we can discuss whether your volume needs indicate whether the design of a partial or full custom solution to reduce production costs is justified.
We can develop both hardware and software for your product, and we do as little or as much of the development as you need us to do. You can count on us for everything from developing an interface board for a specific device and providing the low-level drivers to access it, to developing complete hardware and software for your product.
We can help you meet your embedded computing needs. Our boards cover a range of computing power and I/O capabilities. It’s possible that one or more of our stock boards will fit your needs. We can determine that, as well as what is necessary if our stock boards do not meet your needs. We have in-house expertise in the design and production of both hardware and software, and can go from the “notes on a napkin” stage all the way through to production boards with custom software.

Protostar is Vesta’s program and process that deals with the need for boards not in our standard line of products. It starts with a determination of your needs, and continues through an evaluation of the most cost-effective way Vesta can meet them. Although we have designed and manufactured fully-custom boards for customers before, we have also produced standard boards with a custom connector configuration to meet a customer’s specific requirements and desired results.
Our boards have been designed to make it easy to go from prototype to production. Because the trickiest board to bring up as a new design is usually a computer board, we have several that have been designed as plug-in mezzanine modules. This permits a system to be prototyped with an SBC and one or more peripheral boards, and the only custom board necessary for production is one that combines the I/O peripherals onto a single board that the SBC plugs into.
